BIRD MASK 2024 June - ongoing
A mask has the power to amplify a performer’s movements and emotions. By acting as a shield from the outside world, it fosters self-confidence and strips away the illusions of fear, failure, and judgment. Behind this physical barrier, the artist can explore their own psyche more intimately and step fully into the present moment.
This bird mask was originally crafted for an experimental orchestra formed in Plungė, Lithuania, in 2024 under the direction of Gintarė Gurevučiūtė and composer Dalius Naujokaitis. The ensemble now gathers annually, performing at art festivals such as Upė (Plungė) and Aritmija (Merkinė). The project aims to unite diverse creatives – professional and amateur musicians, writers, and movement artists – to explore the art of improvisation.
